Hilarious Reading Fun March 29, 2010 Lori (Texas, USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Talk of the Town was one of the best books I have read thusfar. Ms. Wingate is an excellent author. I could feel the passion of each person in this quaint home town of Daily, Texas. Her characters are caring, compassionate, warm, and hilarious. I laughed all through this book. I bought this book for my Kindle, however, I purchased the paperback for my daughter and other family members to read. My daughter read it and agreed with me that it was a wonderful story with awesome characters. I have read the next two in the Daily, Texas series and plan to read all her other books as well. Thank you Ms. Wingate for so much fun.
Loved this one! March 25, 2010 Amy W (USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I read Lisa Wingate's Daily, Texas series in reverse order, but they're all outstanding whether you read them in order or not. These books take you out of your life and transport you a little town anyone would like to live in. Wingate has a way of describing places and people that makes you able to picture them and really puts you in the story. I felt like I knew these people and was pulling for each of them. The writing is superb and the storytelling will keep you up late at night. Excellent!
I think I know these people! March 23, 2010 Alice (Houston, TX United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the first Lisa Wingate book that I've read, and I absolutely loved it! I found myself laughing out loud as I was reading, especially at the "dark alley" scene. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting a little mystery, romance and wholesome comedy. If you know anything about small towns in Texas, this is a must read for the characters alone! You'll find yourself wanting to go to Daily, Texas and meet the characters.
Good, but has Christian Overtones March 20, 2010 M. Keller (Northern VA) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I caught this title when it was free a couple weeks ago. It's a good read. It's a romance story, not a collection of steamy scenes loosely tied together. The townsfolk were brought to life and I really wanted everyone to be happy in story and enjoyed the character development. I'm hoping the author will write additional stories about the town and bring it further to life, hopefully focusing less on faith.
A lot of free romance novels for the Kindle are Christian stories. That's great if that is what you want to read. Very annoying when it's not. I don't read Christian stories as they don't interest me. This book lies somewhere between Christian and secular. It has overtones of faith and Christianity, but they are not too frequent and are balanced with enough generic belief and a character that has visions that the story can possibly win over a reader not interested in that. I wish, however, I'd known beforehand and didn't have to find out while reading the story.
Not sure it's worth $10, it's current price, but it was definitely a steal at free.
Boring and Lacking Romance March 11, 2010 Rat (Boston, MA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I picked it up because it's placed in romance genres. There is no romantic interest in the first 1/3 of the book. It's slow and boring. I've read more interesting shopping lists.
The romance (or lack there of) really irritates me. There is virtually no romance in the story and when it does pop up, it's short, vague and gone before the reader gets a chance to really get into it.
The story itself isn't too bad, but it's not just a slow start. It's slow all the way around and not in a nice savor the story way. If the author or editor had hacked out half of the unimportant crap in the book this would be worth reading.
The bad accents are annoying too. Never would have thought I'd have that problem while reading, but you need a decoder ring to figure out what people are saying sometimes.
Don't waste your time if you're looking for a romance.
