Women and Choices April 8, 2010 Kathleen D. Burger (Cherry Hill, NJ) What a sweet story this is. A great read, and a reminder that women have always had to make difficult and limited choices. It also reminds us that things are not always as they seem. Long held beliefs can be exposed as false assumptions. The writing pulls you into the distant past, but the story is written so well, it can apply to any era, including the present. I highly recommend this book.
Wonderful story and life lessons April 6, 2010 MeganS (PA) I enjoyed this book very much. Well developed characters and a few twists in the story. I did not find the story line obvious. Would recommend to anyone. I do not normally read historical fiction, but will do so now!
Good rainy day read! April 4, 2010 Sarah F Vejnoska Klassen's research into the history of apothecaries lends a level of legitimacy to this love story. I particularly enjoyed the fact that, though this is set up like an period romance, the book has more to it than just a girl looking for a suitable match. The lead would be able to hold her own amongst some of Austen's finest. Overall, an ok book--quick and enjoyable.
A wonderful novel! April 3, 2010 Cierha Garris "The Apothecary's Daughter" was a wonderful novel! I thoroughly enjoyed the story, as well as getting a glimpse into the history of apothecaries. (The small historical quotes/clippings between chapters truly enhanced the book.)
It had a few twists and turns in the plot, some surprises that the reader doesn't see coming ahead of time. It was not one of those predictable novels where from page one you know what's going to happen already.
I'll be buying more of Ms. Kalssen's novels in the future if this is an example of what to expect from her work!
Great book! April 3, 2010 Julie M. Archer (Colorado Springs, CO) I was very hesitant about this book but once I began to read it I couldn't put it down. It is unpredictable and reminded me a lot of Gone with the Wind. Strong woman dealing with many of life's heartaches yet winning in the end.
