Food, Inc. could help lead the way for much needed change March 3, 2010 Joy M. Donnellon (Northville, MI USA)
I bought this video so that I can pass along the message of this movie to everyone I can. It is sad and disturbing what has happened to agriculture in our country for the sake of profit. I have been sickened by the way animals are raised and slaughtered for years but this movie was an education about so much more. Living in Michigan, we see farmland vanishing all of the time and replaced with development because farming is not profitable. I am going to demand that, and support stores who acquire and sell local organic and humanely raised products. I am willing to pay more now so that hopefully they will become affordable for everyone. It is also an eye opener about so much more. There is no doubt in my mind that many diseases and conditions that are prevalent in our country today especially cancer are directed related to the content of this film.
no longer a meat eater March 2, 2010 Lyda (Floral Park,NY) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book makes you open your eyes and ask the question,Why am i eating meat? Any kind.
I never thought that i'd be thinking more and more about starting to become a vegan.
I think that would be better for my health and my wallet.
A must read.
WHAT AN EYE OPENER! February 28, 2010 Jane Zentz I purchased Food, Inc. after watching an Oprah show. This is a movie every adult should see. It angered me how big business works. We should be investigating on our own, showing dismayal with their practices and proceed to take action even if it is simply buying organic food (which I am now doing). It does taste better, is certainly better for you, even if you have to pay alittle more for it. It would be a good thing to show your support for the organic growers out there that you appreciate their effort to make our food as healthy as it can be. Big business is taking over - take note. They are doing simply horrible things to animals & humans. They are making it so we are not free anymore to farm how we want, they control everything. I appreciate this movie and have shown to family & friends. It is a great movie and a real eye opener!
Great companion piece to the movie February 25, 2010 David Orr (Phoenix, AZ) This book is an excellent collection of essays to further explore the issues brought up in the film, including some pieces written by the film's director and narrators. Thought-provoking reading that goes into much more depth.
A Must See or Read February 24, 2010 BooksJJS (Brighton, CO) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Excellent information presented in a relatively short, concise format. Clearly presented, well done. I recommend this highly. And after this, read Michael Pollan - anything and everything he's written. Follow that with SuperSize Me... by the time you've done all of this, if you don't change the way you THINK about food and USE food, nothing will convince you!
Food Inc is solid, with strong data and excellent footage. Yes, it's chickens in cages again, and cows standing in their poop again... but how many times do Americans need to see these things before they GET IT? Apparenly many, many times.
Food matters, and how our food is produced matters. The choices you make as a consumer carry more power than most individuals realize. Use that power to make changes. Cows shouldn't have to stand knee deep in poop, and animals should not be pumped full of hormones and bred for finicky customers who wouldn't recognize a normal chicken if it wandered over and nipped their nose.
Watch this, please. Then tell someone else to watch it. And so on.
